Laughter Makes the World Go Round

Good Morning World!

We all love a good case of the giggles, the kind where your stomach starts to hurt, or the kind that makes you run to the toilet in fear, or the silent laughter you do while pulling a face for radio. The latter being my unconcious go-to. It’s a great love in all of us.

There is nothing I love more than the company of people who can make me laugh uncontrollably. If you can find someone who can make you forget about the boring parts of life and create a new happiness. Those are the people you want to spend time with, and those are the people you want to surround yourself with.

I have only recently realised this!

A couple of months ago a big thing happened between me and another individual, it was no ones faul, it just happened. As a result of this, I lost a lot of friends. I lost people who I used to call my best friends, people I use to spend my entire summer with; just gone. It made me realise the importance of real friendship and I how when you went to school you were friends with the people you saw everyday, for no other reason than that; you saw them everyday. My first semester at University served to be fine, but after this ‘incidence’ things just started to disolve. I noticed things I didn’t previosuly. I behaved the same before and after but it was them who ultimatly made the final decision.

The past weeks I have then only surrounded myself with the people who make me smile, the people I can truly be myself around. Going through something this difficult makes you realise who is actually there for you and who was just around for the ride. Because we both lost something, and the fact my ‘friends’ decided to make the choice for me to leave upset me, but now I know I’m better off.

The moral of this story is that laughter comes from being truly comfortable and happy, so only surround yourself with people who do that!

6 Ways To Practice Self-Care

Good Morning World!

The last couple of months I have felt the happiest I have ever been, this second half of my Univeristy year has made me realise how much I enjoy life. A few months back, I was stuck in a rut, I wanted to quit Univeristy and I was holding onto so much of my past that I needed things to change. Looking back at my life year ago it makes me happy to know I have grown up so much, I have so many new friends who care about me and reciprocal, but above all that I am now truly happy. I wanted to share some of the things that have helped me (in more ways than one) turn my life upside down.

1. Choosing Friends.

It sounds so cliché and petty when you hear it out loud but it does make a difference. Sometimes that friend that you’ve had for years isn’t always looking out for you best interest. I have met people at Univeristy that look out for me more than some people from back home I have known for years. Amount of time isn’t a marker of friendship. The key point here is ‘choose’. Don’t give someone the time of day when they can’t spare a moment for you.

2. Self-Discipline

Lets talk about it on a modest level, lets face it I wasn’t the most motivated person in the world. I use to hardly do any work and just continue living my life pretending things don’t exist. But since January I have a schedule and an eating plan. But its not enough to just have these things. You have to stick to them. Learn to say ‘no’ to other things, when your work needs to be done, do it. Don’t get your head turned, put yourself and your future first.

3. Me-Time

To quote Oscar Wilde “be yourself, everyone else is taken”, so make sure you take some time to love yourself. I’m not talking about this take a bubble bath nonsense of me-time, I’m talking about talking time out of your day to focus on yourself, and preparing yourself for the next move. Whether that be waking up an hour earlier on the day of a big presentation to evaluate what needs to be done before, or maybe even ditching a night out to stay home and recharge. Focus on you.

4. Sleep

There is nothing I will stress more. I know a lot of people especially at Univeristy prioritise other things over sleep, and I have to hold my hands up and say I am at fault to this too. Lack of sleep has a negative effect on performance and you are unable to work to your best ability if this is lacking. It has been known for students to pull an all-nighter the day before an assignment is due in, but this will only have a negative effect on you, it wont be your best work.

5. Spending Quality Time with Quality People

It can be hard to juggle your social, work and study life all at once. I find that spending time with the family and friends who know you best can be a refreshing and uplifting. I know we all have those friends who we put up an imagine for, and I have them myself, but enjoying the company of those who you can be 100% yourself around makes everything easier. They understand you, and wont judge you on anything.

6. Managing Your Finances

Being a student, this is a must. Its the first time we are living on our own and we go a little crazy with money. So this little system will help you from splashing the cash. Everyone has a different monthly income to its important to correspond this with how you live your life. Work out how much money you have for the month and use this to calculate how much you have a week. I know that at Univeristy I have £50 to live off every week, I allot a third of this money to food, a third to necessities for example face wipes and toiletries, and the rest is used for me to have fun, which at uni means nights out. Its important to stick to this, I know for some people this can be hard, but one way of making sure is to take out X amount of money every week (in my case £50) and have it in cash, that way you wont be able to overspend like if you used your card.

The truth about self-care shouldn’t be in how you pamper yourself  with luxurious bath products and cleansers but be something we give ourselves credit for every day, for looking after ourselves. I ask everyone reading this to do what I did and look back at how far you’ve come and praise yourself for it, be proud of your achievements no matter how small. Only then can you master the art of self-care.

Top 8 Ways to Live a Happier Life

Good Morning World!

Happiness, its a concept, an idea. The idea that if something good happens to us then we’ll be happy, but that’s not always the case. Often things can go wrong which then leaves us feeling unhappy, but these things are out of our control. However, what we can control is how we react to these stimuli, which means that we can be in control of our own happiness.

I feel it essential to share my top tips on happiness, these are habits that everyone is aware of but sometimes we forget to act on them.

1.  DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS

Everyone is a unique individual and if you start comparing yourselves to others then you’re only hurting yourself. Of course there are times when you look at something and think “Gosh I wish I had her hair” or “I’ll never be able to do what she’s done”. I know the feeling but there are so many great things about you that other people wish they had or could do. So never put yourself down.

2. BE KIND

In life, I have learnt that there is nothing an act of kindness cant solve, and the great thing about it is that its free, and its contagious. Even a smile can brighten someone’s day: its the littles things that mean the most. Also be appreciative of others and try to recognise when others need support and they will then give it you in return.

3. STOP DOING THINGS YOU DON’T WANT TO DO

This is your life! Do what you want! There is no shame in admitting you don’t want to do something and I know there are times that you do say those things, but if it really bothers you, then do something about it. Even if it means changing careers halfway through your life, do it! If your happiness is on the line then anything is worth it.

4. EXERCISE

Sport is a great way to get out the house, meet new friends and clear your mind. Even something as simple as a 10-minute walk can brighten your thought process for the day. I know that intellectually, exercise releases endorphins into your brain that then releases serotonin; the happy molecule.

5. BE GRATEFUL

How many times a day do you use the words “Thank You”. Learn how to open up and you will receive and abundance of joy and happiness. Living in a first world country means that I have access to things I take for granted. Being grateful for what you have makes you appreciate the little things in life.

6. SPEND TIME WITH FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES

Although an abundant social and romantic life does not itself guarantee you joy, it does have a huge impact on our happiness. Spending time with the people you enjoy to be around are a must, try and make friendships a priority in life.

7. EAT HEALTHIER

I cant speak for everyone but I know that when I have a balanced and nutritious meal, including loads of fruit I always feel better about myself. I know that I am treating my body the way it was intended to be treated, that in itself makes me happier.

8. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR GOALS

Everyone have goals, whether that be big or small. But when you don’t keep track of them you can lose motivation and passion to for fulfilling them, or you might not even reach them because you cant satisfy them. Keeping lists and keeping steps to achieve those goals is a simple way of doing this.

I hope this posts helps someone in some way. Thank you for reading.

Secret Tips on Enhancing Flavour | What I Ate Wednesday

Good Morning World!

So recently my diet has taken a slight turn for the better, and I have adopted more fruit and greenery into my meals. Which is a phrase I never thought I’d say! So yesterday I had a was craving something healthy, and salad like, but like many people out there I hate the taste of lettuce and other foods I feel belong in the grass. This is when I had the magical idea of making a fruit salad, but this was no ordinary fruit salad, I used a few little tricks that I had learnt while working in a kitchen to spice up the flavour.

Here are a few tips to enhancing the flavour in your fruit salads without cheating your diet!

wp-1490222552664.jpg

First of all I bought a variety of berries, like strawberries, raspberries and blueberries which are known as a super fruit as they contain antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the body from damage caused by harmful molecules. I also added some red grapes and some plums, but feel free to add whatever fruits you like. Why not try some oranges or pineapples for a bit more colour. However, I would suggest steering away from fruits like apples and bananas especially if you wanted to bulk make your salad for a later date, or you prepare it in the morning for your lunch: as they go bad quickly. Also bananas release a hormone called ethylene which causes fruits to ripen quickly so your fruit salad can go off faster. Such fruits like blueberries and cherries are believed not to release this hormone.

After choosing your fruit, chop it up into a plastic container for later or into a big bowl. I like to chop them up into manageable and bite size chunks, for example cutting grapes in half, and cutting strawberries into 1/8 by cutting them lengthwise into 4 then in half again. When all your fruit is added in the bowl I like to add some lemon juice, which enhances the flavours of strawberries and raspberries, and also adding some finely cut mint leaves, these two ingredients enhance the flavours of the fruits in your salad.

You can either stop here or if you’re a sweet tooth like me you might want to add a bit of sugar. I would suggest adding icing sugar as that can add some moisture and a subtle layer of sweetness without having to layer it in granulated for the same flavour. I use this a lot when having strawberries as it means your not taking in as much bad stuff. Or if you’re really counting those calories just add some sweeteners as they are a healthier alternative to sugar and this was you don’t feel like you’re cheating yourself.

I hope you found some of these tips useful, and feel free to let me know how you get on.

Change is Inevitable

Good Morning World!

Change is and will always be a big part of life, something that you cant help from happening. So the only thing to do is embrace change. By being resistant to change you’re only hurting yourself. One little event can totally change your life plans, so make plans as they come. Don’t plan ahead, and don’t be mad when plans change.

change-waves

Throughout my life I have had my fair share of change. From my parents divorce to something smaller like changing my university course last minute. There are some things that are purely out of your control like my first example. When this happened to me I was 8 years old, and this change affected my life more than anything else. Not being able to live with my dad affected me on a personal level, but I realise looking back at it now that it was a good thing as living in an unhappy household with both pareant would have been worse than happily living with one parent.

Change can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, other people can change and this may force you to change, but sometimes you change yourself and it can influence the rest of your life. Without change I would never be where I am now. When I originally applied for university I wanted to study sociology and if I was perfectly honest with myself I only applied for the benefit of my mother who thought university was the way forward. But with time, I realised that I am not cut out for sociology and what I really wanted to do was become a teacher.

Things happen for a reason, and you have to accept that. It isn’t a bad thing, and even if it may seem like it is at first. You’ll look back at that experience and realise you wouldn’t be who you are now without it. You have grown as a person, and that’s the best change of all.

Life is a Beautiful Struggle

Good Morning World!

I big believer in self-help, and how the only person who can really effect something in your life, is you. If you want to climb Everest, you are the only person who can make that happen, if you want to get all A* at A-level you are the only person who can affect that, and if you are having a bad day only you can pick yourself up again.inspirational-quotes-025-06032013

I like to sit in bed at night and scroll through google looking at self-help and motivational quotes. My Best Friend Georgie thinks I’m a right sad kid, but I’m only being honest. I find that it really helps me when I’m having writers block, or just having a down day. It makes me feel uplifted and that I can get through it.

inspirational-quotes-tumblr-about-life-800

There is always going to be something that is going to push you down, but the best way to get through it is to try a little harder. If you fall down, get back up again, and if you fail, you fail, but that’s okay because you can always try again.

tumblr_nivcsfbu3j1rxbzg4o1_500

For me there is no better feeling than doing something, that someone said you couldn’t. Revenge is best served with a smile. In year 11 I had a girl walk up to me and tell me I couldn’t act, and that I could never do drama or become an actress. She told me that she was better then me, and you couldn’t do drama if you weren’t a confident person. I ended up getting a A in my acting at AS, and she didn’t pass at GCSE. I walked by with a smile on face.
