Pretty Girls | Book Club

Good Morning World!

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while will know, I love a good book. Its been a while since I have posted a book review on the blog, despite swearing to myself to put on up every time I read a new one, which blatantly hasn’t happened, but here goes. My second book review.

This book first came into my possession over a year ago when I decided that my usual genre of books wasn’t quite cutting what I wanted. I had never read a crime book before reading ‘Pretty Girls’ and nor did I really want to. The idea of scaring myself for sheer entertainment isn’t something that greatly appeals to me, but yet I bought the book and I read it in a week.

The blurb reads ” A missing girl. A hope never lost. A killer never found…

Twenty years ago Claire Scott’s eldest sister, Julia, went missing. It was a mystery that was never solved and it tore her family apart.

Now another girl has disappeared, with chilling echoes of the past. And Claire is convinced that Julia’s disappearance is linked.

But when she begins to learn the truth about her sister, she is confronted with a shocking discovery and nothing will ever be the same…”

This book was a real turning point for me, it opened up a whole new set of doors that I never wanted to open. Despite this book utterly scaring my half to death at some points, I couldn’t put it down. The mystery and plot line was thought out perfectly and got me thinking like a detective. I cannot praise Karin Slaughter enough for her incredible attention to detail and unpredictable plotline.

I don’t want give too much away and I will ruin the book and all its twists and turns. But it begins with the murder of Claire’s Husband who is a very wealthy man to whom stored everything in his life on external hard drives which no one had access to but him. She discovered she was hiding something after his death and found that he was being given money by external sources, and money was being paid out on videos of snuff porn. This book circles the illegal money transactions of Claire’s husband and her missing sister from over 20 years ago. The truth will only come and bite her from behind.

This book may not have come across how I want it to in my description but with so many cliff hangers and plot twists in this book, I couldn’t give much away. It truly defies expectation and blows you away. Buy Pretty Girls here.

Despite the gruesome and unfavourable tale of this book, it still holds number one spot of the best book I’ve ever read.

Autumnal To Do List

Good Morning World!

Its officially Autumn! To me, October marks the start of everything cosy, warm and rustic. This is the month when the leaves start to turn golden, and crunchy, the time when I cannot go out the house without a jumper or coat on, and my socks gain a few inches. There are many things that I love about Autumn and many thing I want to do before this season comes to a close just like my good friend summer.

Lets Talk About Self Love

Good Morning World!

Feeling a sense of self-gratification and self-worth comes from loving yourself. Self-love, although I haven’t yet mastered myself is something we all need to work on. We have been given one life, and one self that it is important that we treasure it and learn to love ourselves.

I have been wanting to do this ‘Tag’ post for a while now, not only do I think that the questions are pretty fun but I also think this is a good way for my readers to get to know me. To get to know the face behind my words.

1. What is one thing that gets you down?

One thing that gets me down is not doing anything. I am someone who needs to be doing something at all times otherwise I get seriously bored. When I don’t have something to do, I get really upset and I overthink everything which ends up being extremely unhealthy. This is why blogging is such a good hobby for me because I can always just write another blog post or take another picture.

2. What is one thing that makes you happy?

There are so many things of this earth that make me happy, but the one thing that brings the biggest smile to my face are my dogs. The love I have for those fluffy creatures is beyond anything.

3. What are 3 guilty pleasures of yours?

The first one being rather obvious to anyone who knows me but I indulge in chocolate WAY too much, (she says sat eating a share bag of minstrels).

The second being online shopping, I am a sucker. I almost always have a tab open on my computer where I am browsing through the latest trends and fashions. My basket is always filled with an extortionate amount of stuff that I cannot afford. I just pine over the beautiful clothes and shoes hoping that I’ll one day win the lottery and buy it all.

My final guilty pleasure is watching ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ the American reality TV show where brides pick out their wedding dresses. I love it, and I secretly dream of buying my own dress from Kleinfeld.

4. Name one thing you would like to improve about yourself

I would like to improve my intelligence and my work ethic. Although I have a massive love for books and school, there comes times when I just sit and procrastinate or not do anything. I want to become the best person I can be, and I think this will come to me through intelligence. Knowledge is power.

5. When was the last time you belly laughed?

The last time I belly laughed was earlier today when I went for dinner with my Grandma and my younger brother. My brother told a rather rude joke (too rude for my blog) and my Gran’s face was a picture. I couldn’t contain myself.

6. What is your biggest fear/insecurity?

My biggest insecurity is not being liked or feeling as though I don’t belong. I take criticism very harshly and even if I know a person is joking it can hit me harder than they would think. This is a massive insecurity of mine.

7. Name a song that always cheers you up?

The song that always cheers me up is actually Defying Gravity from the West End Production of Wicked. There is something about the song that is so dramatic and it never fails to have me singing along pretending to be on stage.

8. What are 3 things you like about yourself?

I like that I am a very trustworthy person, and I would value myself on being a good friend. I like that I am an open person, and I think this is a good trait to have especially when meeting new people. Finally I like my sense of style and my fashion sense.

9. What is one achievement that has made you proud of yourself this year?

I am very proud of how hard I have worked in my Gap Year, and how much I have been able to save for University. I am also proud that I was able to find, and get into my first choice University. I have worked very hard this year and I am proud I get to commend my achievement in this blog post.

10. What is your happiest memory?

My happiest memory was being in France on a family holiday with my Grandparents, mum and brother. This was the first holiday we took since my parents had separated and I could see she was much happier being on her own, despite her inner sadness.

My Current Fragrance | Marc Jacobs

Good Morning World!

Despite the obligatory high-end fragrance trend, this is my first time owning an up market perfume, and it wasn’t even purchased myself. This perfume had always been a smell that I adored and whenever I went into a perfume shop I would spray myself with it and walk off (something my mum and I do every time we go shopping still) so that I smell like I can afford it when really I cannot.

Aviary Photo_131419059462168210

I had always known that the Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream perfume has one of my more preferred scents. I am a lover of floral fragrances hence why I love having fresh flowers in my room. My lovely boyfriend is certainly aware of this and even follows me into the perfume shop to spray myself before starting our shopping spree so he bought me my beloved perfume.

The perfume although the clue is in the name has a floral/Daisy scent. I know that my mum isn’t too keen on this fragrance, so it isn’t for everyone however its perfect for me. However, I do find that this perfume doesn’t have a very strong scent and so I find that the smell doesn’t last as long as it would’ve liked, in fact it doesn’t last long at all. This is the only downfall to this product, however it is a big one, so I don’t know if this will be a repurchase of mine because of this reason. I do love it and I will continue to wear it for as long as the bottle lasts.

What fragrance are you currently wearing?

5 Things I Love About Paris

Good Morning World!

After visiting this city for the first time last month I have developed a love for certain elements of it that we just don’t have back home. Paris is known as being the most romantic city in the world, and even though I swayed the table by going with my boyfriend I seem to agree. My time in this gorgeous city left me wanting more and I will be visiting again in the future. So here are a few things that I loved about Paris.

Architecture – Paris is famous for it’s architecture and beautiful buildings with rows of Juliet balconies and gorgeous big windows. Being the complete nerd that I am, this was the first thing I was excited about when I first stepped into this vibrant city.

Landmarks – Paris is full of such beautiful landmarks to visit, and even with my week long trip and culture filled visit we didn’t manage to get round everything that I wanted to see. This glorious city is full of culture and is perfect for those interested in history.

Food – Say no more. We all know that France is known for its fresh pastries and just great food in general, so I was in my element. The continental breakfast every morning was defiantly my favourite, I love a fresh de pain de chocolat.

Language – This may seem like an obvious one but to me the French language is so beautiful and rolls off the tongue. If I could learn another secondary language than it would be French.

Gardens – This could be included in landmarks but the gardens in Paris especially the Jardin de Luxemburg are so beautifully maintained, and its something you just don’t that in Britain.
