Good Morning World!
For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while will know, I love a good book. Its been a while since I have posted a book review on the blog, despite swearing to myself to put on up every time I read a new one, which blatantly hasn’t happened, but here goes. My second book review.
This book first came into my possession over a year ago when I decided that my usual genre of books wasn’t quite cutting what I wanted. I had never read a crime book before reading ‘Pretty Girls’ and nor did I really want to. The idea of scaring myself for sheer entertainment isn’t something that greatly appeals to me, but yet I bought the book and I read it in a week.
The blurb reads ” A missing girl. A hope never lost. A killer never found…
Twenty years ago Claire Scott’s eldest sister, Julia, went missing. It was a mystery that was never solved and it tore her family apart.
Now another girl has disappeared, with chilling echoes of the past. And Claire is convinced that Julia’s disappearance is linked.
But when she begins to learn the truth about her sister, she is confronted with a shocking discovery and nothing will ever be the same…”
This book was a real turning point for me, it opened up a whole new set of doors that I never wanted to open. Despite this book utterly scaring my half to death at some points, I couldn’t put it down. The mystery and plot line was thought out perfectly and got me thinking like a detective. I cannot praise Karin Slaughter enough for her incredible attention to detail and unpredictable plotline.
I don’t want give too much away and I will ruin the book and all its twists and turns. But it begins with the murder of Claire’s Husband who is a very wealthy man to whom stored everything in his life on external hard drives which no one had access to but him. She discovered she was hiding something after his death and found that he was being given money by external sources, and money was being paid out on videos of snuff porn. This book circles the illegal money transactions of Claire’s husband and her missing sister from over 20 years ago. The truth will only come and bite her from behind.
This book may not have come across how I want it to in my description but with so many cliff hangers and plot twists in this book, I couldn’t give much away. It truly defies expectation and blows you away. Buy Pretty Girls here.
Despite the gruesome and unfavourable tale of this book, it still holds number one spot of the best book I’ve ever read.
Love Georgina xx
