Where to dine in Oxfordshire | Anniversary meal

Good Morning World!

One Year! 12 months! 52 weeks! 365 days! 8760 hours! and 525600 minutes!

When you put it in that perspective it doesn’t seem like that length of time, but for us its a personal milestone. Marking the seriousness of our relationship, and the stepping stone for our future.

To celebrate the occasion we took a trip to a local restaurant one Monday evening. The Duck on the Pond is a delightful public house, restaurant and gardens located in the village of South Newington in the heart of Oxfordshire. It served high class food, in a traditional dining area featuring oak beams and a bread oven. It was also the winner of the certificate of Excellence by Trip Adviser 2015.

We arrived here at 19:30 and were greeted with friendly and attentive service. I started out evening up by ordering my favourite foods; mussels, which although delicious, isn’t everyone’s meal of choice. The food arrived in no time at all and with excellent service, offering us a variety of extras.

For my main course I ordered the pan fried sea bass, served with crab and chilli, baby spinach mash and sauce vierge. It was beautifully cooked and presented and the mash was to die for. Normally I am not one for mash potato, its something about the texture that puts me off, but even despite this, I couldn’t help but gobble it up. Such a well done meal.

If any knows me well, they’ll know I never turn down an opportunity to eat pudding. Its the best part of the meal, and not having something sweet to follow slowly kills me on the inside. Even if its a cube of chocolate or a full sticky toffee pudding, its a must. Now by this point I was absolutely stuffed and couldn’t possibly try the vast selection indulgent deserts, so I went for the lighter option of mango and raspberry sorbet.

My whole meal oozed perfection on this even more perfect night with an even more perfect person. I couldn’t have asked for a better meal. I will defiantly be coming back to the duck on the pond to enjoy yet again another fantastic meal. I would defiantly recommend if anyone finds themselves in Oxfordshire near this little village.
