Secret Tips on Enhancing Flavour | What I Ate Wednesday

So recently my diet has taken a slight turn for the better, and I have adopted more fruit and greenery into my meals. Which is a phrase I never thought I’d say! So yesterday I had a was craving something healthy, and salad like, but like many people out there I hate the taste of lettuce and other foods I feel belong in the grass. This is when I had the magical idea of making a fruit salad, but this was no ordinary fruit salad, I used a few little tricks that I had learnt while working in a kitchen to spice up the flavour.

Here are a few tips to enhancing the flavour in your fruit salads without cheating your diet!



First of all I bought a variety of berries, like strawberries, raspberries and blueberries which are known as a super fruit as they contain antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the body from damage caused by harmful molecules. I also added some red grapes and some plums, but feel free to add whatever fruits you like. Why not try some oranges or pineapples for a bit more colour. However, I would suggest steering away from fruits like apples and bananas especially if you wanted to bulk make your salad for a later date, or you prepare it in the morning for your lunch: as they go bad quickly. Also bananas release a hormone called ethylene which causes fruits to ripen quickly so your fruit salad can go off faster. Such fruits like blueberries and cherries are believed not to release this hormone.

After choosing your fruit, chop it up into a plastic container for later or into a big bowl. I like to chop them up into manageable and bite size chunks, for example cutting grapes in half, and cutting strawberries into 1/8 by cutting them lengthwise into 4 then in half again. When all your fruit is added in the bowl I like to add some lemon juice, which enhances the flavours of strawberries and raspberries, and also adding some finely cut mint leaves, these two ingredients enhance the flavours of the fruits in your salad.

You can either stop here or if you’re a sweet tooth like me you might want to add a bit of sugar. I would suggest adding icing sugar as that can add some moisture and a subtle layer of sweetness without having to layer it in granulated for the same flavour. I use this a lot when having strawberries as it means your not taking in as much bad stuff. Or if you’re really counting those calories just add some sweeteners as they are a healthier alternative to sugar and this was you don’t feel like you’re cheating yourself.

Statement Denim Jacket

Good Morning World!

Are statement jackets are thing? I guess they must be.. but this jacket brings me so much love that I make a statement with it everyday of the week. This was an impulse buy when browsing on the Topshop website a few weeks ago, and ever since it has come into my possession its my favourite thing!


The patterned detailing was what drew me to this jacket, but despite wanting it I never thought that I would wear it as much as I do. It cost me a little under £60 which for a warm jacket isn’t half bad (she tells herself) but considering the amount of wear I get out of it, its certainly worth it. I even had someone come up to when I was in Bicester village to ask where my jacket was from, which you usually don’t get!


I paired the jacket with yet another top from my ‘try-something-new-Zara-shopping-trip”. I loved the red floral detailed on the bottom of this shirt that makes it acceptable to wear from spring into summer because of the warm colour. I am also wearing some white jeans which I actually got from New Look a few years ago before I discovered the wonder that is Topshop jeans.

A Day in the Life of a Chocoholic | Cadbury’s World

Good Morning World!

If anyone knows me, they know that I love chocolate, I’m not talking run of the mill “oh yeah I love chocolate” I mean I REALLY love chocolate. I easily get through a sharing bar a day, and its getting to be a bit of a problem not only for my bank account but for my health too, but as much I try and resist there is a little voice inside telling me that I need it! I mean I’m currently half way through a bar now!


Last week myself and a friend took a trip to Chocolate Heaven, otherwise known as Cadbury’s world. This is the second time in my life that I have been here, and there will no doubtfully be a third and maybe a forth. Cadbury’s world is located in a town called Bourneville (hence the name of their famous dark chocolate) just outside Birmingham.

The tour started off showing us the history of the cocoa bean (whilst also giving us chocolate) and telling us about how drinking chocolate was as good as drinking alcohol back then: it was only for the wealthy. So this trip was not only enjoyable but also very educational and rewarding, making it a perfect day out. We saw so many videos including a 4D experience of how chocolate is made in Cadbury’s (whilst we ate more chocolate). I experienced so many melt in the mouth moments that my mouth is watering now as I write this.

Cadbury’s world was a perfect day out for all of the family to enjoy, and despite the childish appeal there was surprisingly little children visiting the factory, most of which were adults, which made us feel a little better about the overwhelming excitement we felt on the train ride there. The staff were very informative and made you feel right at home, it was a truly amazing day. My favourite part being the 4D experience which I could highly recommend doing.

The gift shop was also a big part of the day out as both myself and my friend bought more than we bargained for when browsing the chocolate filled room. I bought a bulk buy box of Cadbury’s dairy milk bars which had 60 inside, and a box of Curly Wurly’s containing 45. Along side a 850g chocolate bar which was as long as my arm!
